Sr CAD Specialist

Responsibilities:
Provide drafting and 3D Computer Aided Design support to Project Teams and departmental infrastructure in specialized or general disciplined areas .
Produce final engineering design documents such as three-dimensional models, detialed arrangements of equipment and components, fabrication drawings etc based on UOP design practices, industry standards and client specifications.
The designer shall coordinate with Project Manager, Fabricator and Client to convey UOP engineering design requirements to be incorporated in the completed project design.
The designer is expected to develop and generate UOP practices and standards in 2 and 3D design.
Perform 2D drafting of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID) using AutoCad software for the Kuala Lumpur Design Office.
Attend and participate in customer meetings both on and off-site as assigned.
Explain the UOP standard nomenclature and drafting standards to clients.
Consult with the process engineer to create a project specific draft P&ID for internal review based on UOP standard design.
Attend and participate in internal P&ID drawing review and mark-up the project drawings per UOP standards for drafting.
Incorporate all design changes in a timely fashion for review by the process engineer.
Develop expertise in a specific technology area. Perform 2D drafting work for other UOP offices as required.
Construct 3D models for piping and equipment layout utilizing Autoplant software based on UOP and/or client piping specifications.
Conduct internal and external 3D model reviews explaining and defending design decisions.
Organize and prioritize work to meet schedule for 60% and 90% client model review.
Initiates and contributes to development and maintenance of infrastructure such as design tools, design manuals, model attributes and specification templates and shares improvements with colleagues. Develop expertise in a specific technology for optimal piping and equipment layout including offshore design practices.
Develop expertise in Autoplant software to become ‘super-user’ who can mentor others in 3D design.
Develop and maintain department 2D PFD and P&ID templates incorporating UOP and industry standards and best practices.
Develop and maintain department 3D models and templates for use in the Kuala Lumpur Design Center and other UOP offices.
Continuous learning of Autoplant 3D modeling software. Be able to proactively learn other software such as PDMS or PDS for 3D modeling.
Work with Project Manager and Team in weekly meetings and schedule updates to ensure projects are on schedule during the course of the project. Coordinating and leading the client 2D P&ID review and reading the client 3D model review.
Work with Lead Designer and other UOP offices to agree on standards and best practices ; sharing workload with international offices ; convincing customer’s engineers of design options that are proposed
Requirements:
Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. 3-8 years experience in EPC Engineering company or equivalent.
Detailed knowledge of ANSI piping classes and typical O&G piping standards.
Experience with AutoCadd drafting required. Knowledge and some experience with AutoPlant, PDMS or PDS 3D modeling software is desirable.
Capable of integrating piping standards into a detailed layout of a process unit.
Good English communication skills.
Capable of working independently and as part of a project team. Ability to work effectively with team members of all disciplines.
Able to check the work of self and others for technical accuracy and compliance with established guidelines and procedures. Self-motivated and motivates colleagues; does not wait for work to be identified.
Assists in training of less experienced designers.
